Honda Gresini team seems to be backwards from the last series MotoGP 2011 in Valencia, 6 November. This plan following the tragic death of its flagship rider, Marco Simoncelli, in a deadly accident at the Sepang Circuit, Malaysia, Sunday (10/23/2011).
"The thing that is certain is that my team will not participate in the next race in Valencia, or schedule a test after the race," said team boss Fausto Gresini, as reported by GPone.com.
Before the death of "Supersic", Gresini, who is a former world champion 125 cc class, had a similar bitter experience. In 2003, the Japanese rider who strengthens Honda Gresini team, Daijiro Kato, also had an accident and died at Suzuka.
Simoncelli death is the first time in the premier class since Kato.
Speaking of Simoncelli, who became Gresini rider since making his debut in MotoGP in early 2010, as well as Honda's decision to renew his contract recently, Fausto said, "I have so many images that come to mind, from two years together. Marco spontaneous, always doing what he thinks is right, with sincerity and always happy. I do not remember if it ever saw him angry once ...."
"A great boy who comes from a privileged family. He and his father are very close, like brothers."
Simoncelli, the world champion 250 cc class in 2008, ending his first season in MotoGP in eighth. In the second season in the most prestigious class, Simoncelli show progress very proud because he was twice on the podium. The Italian rider won the best results when it finished second in Australia, a week before the show in Malaysia.
Without Simoncelli, in Valencia later (if still participate) Honda Gresini team will rely only Japanese rider Hiroshi Aoyama. But, for next season, Gresini rider should look new because Aoyama certain to move to World Superbike Championship event.
